“It is clear that staff and pupils understand and uphold the values in the work and life of the school. Pupils can not only name the values, but understand what they are and mean and importantly how they are demonstrated across school.”

At our school, our values aren’t just words on the wall. They are woven through everything we do and underpin every decision that we make. Each value is brought to life through experiences, opportunities and artefacts that help our children grow into confident, kind and capable learners.
We believe that our children can do anything that they put their minds to. We use a combination of well-loved books and the children’s interests to ignite their thirst for learning so that our children have goals and dreams both within the classroom and beyond.
Aspiration in action includes:
- Classes named after Yorkshire university cities, inspiring children to see themselves as future graduates.
- Visits to each university city to raise aspirations and broaden horizons.
- An ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum designed to challenge and excite learners.
- A strong belief that every child can succeed: shown through our 100% Year 1 Phonics pass rate for the past two years.
We believe in the power of belonging and provide plenty of opportunities for children to work collaboratively. We model and celebrate teamwork and good communication skills in order to teach our children how to be good team players.
Collaboration in action includes:
- Four house teams made up of children from Nursery to Year 6, building teamwork and belonging.
- Active participation in BLP Trust events, encouraging teamwork beyond our own school.
- Opportunities to collaborate across schools, including:
We believe that for our children to make great progress, they must first be able to overcome their mistakes and the challenges that they will face along the way. We teach our children the strategies they need to be resilient young people.
Resilience in action includes:
- Twice daily journaling to help children reflect on learning and emotions.
- Specific teaching of the Zones of Regulation framework, supporting emotional awareness and self-management, including a 'regulation station' in every classroom.
We place great importance on inclusion and respectful relationships are central to our approach. We teach our children the skills of respect and kindness by modelling these in our relationships with all adults and children and by giving children the opportunity to communicate with a diverse range of people.
Respect in action includes:
- Our school is built on shared values not a list of school rules.
- Respectful relationships underpin all that we do: we believe in the power of unconditional positive regard.
- Restorative approaches help children reflect, repair, and rebuild relationships when things go wrong with an emphasis on empathy, understanding and kindness in every interaction.
We promote self-motivation and taking ownership for our own actions by working hard and trying our best at all times. Children are taught to take responsibility for their environment, their own actions and their own choices.
- Year 6/Reception buddy system fostering care and role modelling.
- Values Ambassadors from each class help Mrs Brown lead on school initiatives.
- Lunchtime responsibilities promote independence and community contribution.
- Leadership opportunities for all Year 6 pupils, including:
